"Our primary purpose was to set up a system under which the curse of idleness would be done away with... and independence, industry, thrift, and self-respect be once more established amongst our people." (President Grant, October 1936 General Conference) This quote is in regards to the Church's Welfare System, which was set up in 1936, but still applies to us today. My favorite word in that quote is THRIFT; we should be a thrifty, or provident, people.

Cheez-it Cracker Sale
This is from Amber Golding...."Okay all you bargain shoppers. Macey's in Spanish Fork has their Cheez-it Colby crackers and snack mix crackers on sale for .69 a box. They have the coupon for you at the check-out. I just got 14 boxes for 10.58 total!!! Will be great for the kids lunches. I don't know how long the sale lasts but they still had quite a few. All of their other cheez-its are 1.25 a box. Not a bad day for shopping!!!"

Using Coupons....
This is my coupon book. I got this idea from a Savvy Shopper class I went to. They are in baseball card pages. This way I can see exactly what the coupon is and when it expires. I also have the pages organized according to category, like pet care, medicine, toiletries, cereal, etc.. The hardest part was getting it all set up but as long as I keep up with it, it's pretty simple. I cut my coupons while I'm doing something else, like watching TV, listening to talks from LDS.org, or helping the kids with their homework. It never feels like wasted time and I've got it down now so it's real quick. I usually wait until I see an item on sale then use a coupon to make it even cheaper, but if I need something last minute it's nice to know I may be able to save a little bit of money by using a coupon.I keep fast food coupons in a folder like this one; I also got this idea from Savvy Shopper. These folders are hard to find, but they are so great for bigger coupons and weekly grocery store ads.
This is where I keep my coupon book. Using the back of a door is my favorite organization trick. See the Fresh Market ad behind the folder? It's there and not in my folder because I cannot find any more folders like the green one above! If you are shopping somewhere and see them, please let me know!!! =)
Emergency Water for Cleaning
My mother-in-law taught me this little trick. When dishwashing liquid, like Dawn or Joy, is almost gone and you can't get the rest out of the bottle, fill it with water then put it in your storage. It can be used as water for cleaning in an emergency.
Rotating Powdered Milk Idea
Another way to rotate powdered milk so that it doesn't go bad is to use it in smoothies and shakes instead of store bought milk. You just need to convert the measurements down to one person. (For the brand I use, it is 1 cup water for every 1/4 cup powdered milk.) Just mix the powdered milk and water in the blender first, then add the rest of your ingredients. This not also saves your store bought milk but helps make use of your food storage. Oh, and my kids cannot tell a difference in taste when doing this, it has my kids' seal of approval!
